Top Phillies Moment # 3

My Fellow Phans,

I apologize for this being so late, but here it is: Top Phillies Moment # 3.

Phillies Moment 3
September 20th-22nd: Trio of Hamels, Halladay, and Oswalt team up to Sweep Braves

In what may have been the biggest series of the regular season, the Phillies aligned their rotation to have their “Big 3” or H20 as they have come to be known as, pitching against the Atlanta Braves. The move paid off in a huge way as the three combined to win all 3 games in the series and help the Phillies take control of the NL East race for good.

In the opener, Cole Hamels toed the rubber and reminded all Phillies fans of the elite starter that he had been all season. Cole pitched 8 brilliant innings allowing just a single run and Brad Lidge closed out the 9th inning to seal the deal.

In the 2nd game, Roy Halladay didn’t have his usual top of the line stuff, but he surrendered just 3 runs and the Phillies scored off of the Braves bullpen late to take the second game by a 5-3 score.

In the final game, Roy Oswalt pitched 7 shutout innings and Raul Ibanez hit a tiebreaking 8th inning double to give the Phillies the sweep and their 10th straight win overall. Tommy Hanson pitched admirably for the Braves, but Atlanta couldn’t muster much against the strong starting pitching for the Phillies.

The sweep gave the Phillies a 6 game cushion in the NL East and 10 wins in a row.

Look for # 2 tomorrow!

Until we meet again Phillies fans; Happy Readings and Go Phillies!
