The Top 2010 Phillies Moments: #11 - # 9

My Fellow Phans,

Here is part 2 of my top Phillies moments of the season:

Phillies Moment # 11
June 23rd – Jimmy Rollins Hits His First Career Walk-Off Homer to Beat Indians

Jimmy Rollins homered off of Kerry Wood in the bottom of the 9th with a runner on to give the Phillies a 7-6 win and a second straight win against the Indians.

In what turned out to be a back and forth affair between the Phillies and Indians at the Bank ended in a flash as Rollins’ blasted a 1-1 pitch from wood deep into the right field seats. After Brian Schiender worked a work and pinch runner Wilson Valdez advanced to second base on a groundout,  Rollins stepped up in a big way to make sure the Philles won a game that they had nearly let slip away.

Phillies Moment # 10
May 4th – After Pitchers’ Duel; Chooch’s Walk-Off Homer Wins It For the Phils

Carlos Ruiz homered in the bottom of the 10th inning to break a 1-1 tie as the Phillies took their first of 3 against the Cardinals.

Cole Hamels was brilliant giving up 1 run in 8 innings and striking out 8. St. Louis starter Adam Wainwright matched Hamels pitch for pitch as the Phillies just couldn’t push across that extra insurance run. It turns out they didn’t need it as Ruiz took Blake Hawthorne out to left to win it in extras.

Phillies Moment # 9
May 7th & June 5th - A Pair of Complete Game Milestones for The Ageless Wonder Jamie Moyer

On May 7th, Jamie Moyer became the oldest pitcher to throw a shutout, as the 47-year-old allowed just a pair of singles. Jayson Werth's homer was all the support needed for Moyer, who retired 17 straight at one point.
When asked about the history making performance, Moyer responded in his usual humble way. “Cool," he said “Just doing my job”.  That attitude is what endears so many Phillies fans to Moyer. He is quiet, humble and just goes out and does his job day in and day out. Remind you of any other of our starters? Thought so.
On June 5th, Moyer set another historical mark when he won his 100th game after the age of 40 with a complete game victory over the visiting Padres. Again Moyer, brushed off the milestone for the overall health of the team. “"An achievement here is a win tomorrow," Moyer said. "I think the personal things, there's another time and another place for that."
Whether or not Moyer returns next season, one thing is for sure: Moyer is and will always be one of the most beloved players in Phillies history.
Look for Moments #8-6 tomorrow!
Until we meet again Phillies fans; Happy Readings and Go Phillies!
